High Performance Materials

Multibase offers two basic chemical compositions to manufacture airbag covers for driver, passenger and side impact applications.
Multiflex materials respond to the wide range of properties needed to obtain the following main airbag criteria: low and high temperature deployment, easy processing to duplicate tear seam tolerances, UV resistance, aesthetics and soft touch feeling.

The covers can be designed as a single shot or two shot system (1 K or 2 K). The choice depends on production costs in comparison with the aesthetic and soft touch criteria.

Chemistry based on PP/EPDM/POE
High rigidity without compromising deployment
Economic materials
Applications: driver, passenger or side airbags

• 2 K base carrier with a TPE soft touch
  or PUR/PVC foam skin
• 1 K with soft touch paint system, primer needed
• 1 K unpainted with adequate scratch resistance

Multiflex TPE Thermoplastic Elastomers

Chemistry based on SEBS/SEEPS/PP
Wide range of hardness
Excellent scratch resistance (TPE-MR)
Economically preferred design (1 K unpainted)
Easy processing
Possible mass-coloration or concentrates
Applications: driver, passenger or side airbags

• 2 K skin painted or scratch resistant over a TPO base carrier
• 1 K unpainted scratch resistant or painted with primer for soft touch feel
